We’ve got more on Star Wars Starfighter including Ryan Gosling trying to avoid answering if he uses a Lightsaber in the film.
The leading man took part in an interview with Scott Mills for BBC Radio 2. Gosling was there to promote his new film Project Hail Mary which he is the star of. Whilst you’d expect the interview to focus on the new release, lots of topics were touched on. Of course, once you are in an upcoming Star Wars film it is impossible to escape that. Mills did indeed ask Gosling about Star Wars Starfighter.
The host did begin by asking if he’s allowed to ask about it. The actor responded by asking a question of his own: “What would you like to know?” Mills was happy to learn anything. The film has an “incredible cast” and it was “very surreal” Gosling began.
Gosling Wasn’t A Star Wars Fan
Interestingly, the actor reveals he did not see Star Wars until later into his life. He was not a fan growing up. Despite this he admitted he had Star Wars bed sheets well before he had even seen a Star Wars film. During filming, he had one of his friends bring him the bed sheets to his trailer so he was reminded of where it all started every time he went back to it.
Being On Set
Despite only getting into Star Wars in adulthood, Gosling still could appreciate being on a Star Wars set. Here’s his own words of what it felt like:
“I didn’t realize until I got there this was like setting your, defining your idea of what first of all like what a font is. What a soundtrack is, like John Williams. What a sound effect is, even just like the lightsaber sound. What a hero, a villain, what a one-liner is. Everything has sort of been defined by that. And I didn’t, I guess, get that until I was on the set going like “Oh, wow. This is really… that must this cuts deep.”
Mills used the mention of a Lightsaber to try playfully catch Gosling out. The radio host casually said “There you are, and then you’ve got a lightsaber in your hand.” The lead of the film paused and said “Well…that I can’t” as he sheepishly looks directly into the camera and shrugs before ending with “I didn’t say that. Right.”
