As we bid farewell to 2024, we look into the new year and wonder what’s to come. On the Star Wars front we get the epic conclusion of Andor, the second and final season will release exclusively on Disney+ in April, the same month Star Wars Celebration is due to take place in Japan and it’s expected that the second season of Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka series will also begin shooting that month also. Outside of those events, we don’t know what else the galaxy far, far away has in store for us. However, a brief tidbit from a reliable journalist and insider may have given us a bit of hope that another Star Wars movie might enter production next year.
Before we continue with the article, I’d just like to share that you can now find Bespin Bulletin on Blue Sky. Also, if you’re feeling generous due to the holiday spirit and are a fan of Bespin Bulletin, you could support my work by tipping via Ko-Fi or my becoming a Patreon member – we’ve been losing subscribers as of late. Any support would be greatly appreciated. The site has not been doing well, I haven’t been paid for most of the year, and Patreon numbers have been dwindling. So if you feel like helping me and the site out, that would be greatly appreciated. Anyway, on with the news!
According to TheInseider.com aka Jeff Sneider in his most recent newsletter, Shawn Levy, the director behind the billion dollar juggernaut Deadpool & Wolverine, is reportedly “holding a window” open in September of next year for his untitled Star Wars movie. According to Sneider, the film will feature Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker, but she is not the lead and will take on a mentor role and that the lead will be either a “teenage boy” or a “young man.”
The update from Jeff Sneider follows reports that James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie (working title) will begin shooting in December of 2025. I have not covered these reports as I’ve yet to see it come from an outlet I deem reliable, unlike TheInseider, who is incredibly reputable.

Mangold, who was promoting his latest release, A Complete Unknown, told Deadline earlier this month that he doesn’t know what his next project will be, Dawn of the Jedi or Swamp Thing for DC Studios, but did reveal that he and his Dawn of the Jedi writing partner, Beau Willimon (Andor, House of Cards) are “trying to finish a draft” of his Star Wars effort.
Personally I have no idea what project will be next theatrically for Star Wars following The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is due to hit theatres on May 22nd, 2026. It could be the Shawn Levy movie, maybe it will be James Mangold’s flick, perhaps the first film from the Simon Kinberg trilogy, or maybe even none of them, maybe it’s something we don’t even know about as of yet. I do not know and if the last few years has taught us fans anything about Lucasfilm releasing Star Wars movies post-sequel trilogy, it’s that we should keep our expectations low and take a more believe it when we see it mentality.
Following The Mandalorian and Grogu, the next dated Star Wars film is for December 17th, 2027. Maybe that date will belong to Shawn Levy’s effort.
