We might be seeing more theatrical work from Shawn Levy in a galaxy far, far away. That’s according to the CEO of Netflix who has discussed the exits of both Levy and the Duffer Brothers from the streaming studio.
This year has seen the minds behind Stranger Things sign deals with other studios following the hit show ending. That includes Star Wars Starfighter director Shawn Levy who signed with Disney’s 20th Century Television just this week.
Ted Sarandos who runs Netflix spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about these high profile losses. During the interview he seemingly suggested Levy Will be doing more Star Wars than just Starfighter. Check out his quote in full below:
“The problem when you have an overall deal with someone who has commitments in other places, you’re in constant conflict for their time. And Shawn is going to be making Star Wars movies for a while. So the fact that his deal is with Disney makes a lot of sense. I’m thrilled for Shawn. We’re going to do a ton of things together.”
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos

As we know, Starfighter completed filming At the end of last year. A rough cut was even made at the start of this year. The film is very far along with a release dated for next May. If Sarandos had said this during production or just before that would make sense but the fact that he is saying this as Starfighter comes to a close suggests he might be privy to information about Levy’s post-Starfighter plans.
It’s entirely possible he just simply misspoke but it’s an open secret Disney are extremely happy with how Starfighter is looking. They didn’t just give him a TV deal for nothing.
It was previously rumoured last week that Jon Watts has been tapped to direct the first film in the next Star Wars trilogy. Could Levy be playing a part in the development of this trilogy or even direct one of the other films? We’ll have to wait and see.
