Fans have seen various glimpses of a mysterious Inquisitior in multiple pieces of Ahsoka marketing material, but now the identity of the villain has seemingly been revealed.

Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can now follow me on Threads here. Also, you can support my work in two ways. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a single tier at this time simply to support my work. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

Following the release of the long-awaited official trailer for Ahsoka, Disney have uploaded high quality stills from the trailer to their All Access Pages. When scrolling through and coming across a still of the mysterious Inquisitor we see our hero, Ahsoka Tano, face off against in the latest trailer, I noticed that the name of the character had been listed on the site.

If the listing is to be believed, and it should be considering they’re official press-ready releases from Disney themselves, the Inquisitor set to feature in the upcoming Ahsoka series is named, Marrok. In addition, it’s mentioned that Marrok is being played by the stunt performer, Paul Darnell. There is no listing to indicate a voice actor for the character.

Ahsoka Tano and our heroes will seemingly face-off against Marrok multiple times throughout the series. The latest trailer see’s Ahsoka in a confrontation with the Inquisitor in a forest with red leaves, seemingly being the same forest where Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is seen duelling the villainous Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). The initial teaser trailer from April also revealed that Ahsoka will face Marrok in an industrial location. The industrial location duel is believed to take place earlier on in the series, whereas the forest confrontation seemingly takes place later in the series when Tano and Wren are on their journey to find and stop the return of the series big bad, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), due to the shorter hairstyle being sported by Sabine Wren as the Mandalorian cuts it ahead of the duo’s quest beginning.

    Lucasfilm

Though it’s not been shown in any of the trailers, an image of Marrok was shown at Star Wars Celebration in April which saw the Inquisitor piloting a starfighter. Currently we don’t know when this takes place, the Inquisitor could simply be tracking Ahsoka or our heroes to one of the locations we seen Marrok and Ahsoka in battle. Alternatively it could be that our heroes come into conflict with Marrok in space as we see various shots of Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren in dogfights.

We know pretty much nothing in regards to Marrok, with Lucasfilm attempting to keep their cards close to their chest in regards to the Ahsoka series. The name of Marrok itself comes from Arthurian legends with the name believed to be associated with a knight thats thought to be a werewolf. It’s clear in Marrok’s design, in particular their helmet, that it’s been inspired by medieval knights and given Dave Filoni’s obsession with wolves, it seems fitting that this name be bestowed on the Inquisitor.

Marrok is also a name that’s been used by Dave Filoni in the past during Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Marrok was an Anooba and a companion of the bounty hunter Embo. We can’t learn much from The Clone Wars Marrok, but the design of the creature was that of a wolf, seemingly hinting once again at the Arthurian legend. In 2012, Dave Filoni mentioned that Embo and Marrok were his homages to the G.I. Joe characters, Snake Eyes and Timber. I wonder if the Ahsoka character Marrok is also inspired by Filoni loves’s of the G.I. Joe franchise, specifically Snake Eyes, as the Inquisitor does bare a resemblance to the iconic G.I. Joe character.

The Ahsoka series will debut on Disney+ on August 23rd with a two episode premiere.
