It’s been three years since the first season of Andor, three years, and almost two years since I got to see footage of the highly anticipated second season at Star Wars Celebration in London. After a long wait, Lucasfilm and Disney have now officially released the first trailer for the second and final season.
The footage gives us our first look at returning characters such as Bix (Adria Arjona), Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard), Syril Karn (Kyler Soller) and his mom, Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Riley) and Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) to name a few, along with some new additions to the series, though returning in the Star Wars universe, including Saw Gerrera (Forrest Whitaker), Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) and K2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk).

The trailer itself is unlike any Star Wars trailer that’s come before, it’s pretty short, coming in at only one minute and thirty six seconds, really plays of the prestige and critical acclaim of the first season, as a Steve Earle’s The Revolution Starts Now (how fitting) plays. It was quite jarring to hear a song like this attached to a Star Wars trailer, it’s usually some piano based rendition of an already existing theme, but it was really quite refreshing, as was the brief trailer as a whole. I don’t need to see anything from this season, I don’t need to be sold on anything, I will be there no matter what.

What’s also unlike what’s come before in terms of Star Wars TV is the release schedule for Andor season two. Season two will be released in three episode chunks weekly. That’s right folks, we’re getting three Andor episodes a week for four weeks which starts on April 22nd. This makes a ton of sense considering each four episode chunk represents a year before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

I adored the first season of Andor and ridiculously excited for the second and final season. Perhaps that’s coming across in my writing. I haven’t been this excited about a Star Wars project in years, since the first season of Andor I’d assume. There’s no other Star Wars project after Andor that I’m actively excited for, curious for sure. I can’t get to attached to excited for any for the upcoming movies without release dates – we know the history. I’m not very excited for The Mandalorian and Grogu based on everything I’ve heard. But this, this has me jazzed.
