The second and final season of the critically acclaimed Star Wars series, Andor, wrapped production earlier this month and according to a star of the series, fans can expect the series to release in either late 2024 or early 2025.
Stellan Skarsgard, who played Luthen Rael in Andor, is currently promoting Dune: Part II, a film receiving mass critical acclaim, in Skarsgard plays the character Baron Harkonenn, is due to release on Friday. In one of the promotional stops, Skarsgard spoke with Total Film and as you’d expect with any actor attached to Star Wars, Skarsgard was asked about the second season of Andor and when fans can expect to see it on the small screen. Skarsgard told the outlet, “It will probably be out towards the end of the year or early next.”
Back in September, I reported that I’d been told by sources that the second and final season of Andor had been delayed into early 2025 and three months later, German Lussier of Gizmodo shared that he too had heard Andor season two would release in 2025. In December 2023, Andor season two has not present on the Disney+ 2024 calendar, though two other live-action Star Wars series were, The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew. Neither received a release date from Disney, though Collider reported last week that The Acolyte will release on June 5th, which followed my report from September that shared that The Acolyte will release in the Summer of 2024 and that Skeleton Crew will release in November 2024.
The second and final season of Andor began filming in November 2022, just as the first season finished airing on Disney+. The series spent a large amount of its time behind the walls of Pinewood Studios in London, but shot in several locations across the United Kingdom and even made its way to Valencia, Spain. However, production hit a roadblock in July when the SAG-AFTRA strike began, meaning most of the stars had to stop working on the production until the strike concluded, this included the series lead, Diego Luna, and supporting cast members such as Adria Arjona and more. The production limped on for around a week as the series filmed scenes that didn’t require the SAG-AFTRA actors, but the production ultimately stopped with a couple weeks left of filming. The SAG-AFTRA strike concluded in November and on January 16th, Luna confirmed that he was heading back to London that day ready for filming, and that Andor season two had only seven days left of filming – filming wrapped on February 9th, 2024.
