Star Wars Battlefront 2 is continuing to be force in the gaming space. Despite launching over 8 years ago and no new content in over half a decade, DICE’s beloved shooter lives on within a strong community.
It is closing in on almost a year since the viral resurgence that spread far and wide. Even as the peak player count has dropped since last summer, we can still see the game is being picked up by new players or returned to by veterans.
PlayStation Shows Battlefront Is Up
PlayStation shared their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads for all of January and February recently. In the charts, Star Wars Battlefront II has been the only non-VR Star Wars title found within the top 20 lists for months now.
In January, the game was the 5th most downloaded PS4 game in the USA and Canada. Whereas in Europe it took home 11th place. This was a re-entry for the title after not appearing in the December charts. More recently, the game slipped to 19th in the North American chart and was not present in the European list.

That said, this is still quite remarkable considering we are fast approaching the 6th anniversary of the game’s final update: Battle on Scarif. It is also worth noting the PS4 download charts contain downloads made to both PS4 and PS5 consoles. There is no native PS5 version of Battlefront 2 so all downloads are classed in the PS4 charts.
All of this is in spite of the community-built Kyber platform for mods and private matches launching in open beta this past December. Data has shown many console players have ditched their Xbox and PlayStation for a PC to enjoy a new, expanded era of Battlefront 2.
It will be interesting to see how many more gamers make the transition to PC and leave console behind. Given it still gets many downloads on PlayStation, it is clear there is an appetite for multiplayer Star Wars gaming.
