Ahead of what could be yet another Resurgence Day for the history books, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been quietly gaining big player numbers. New data published by Sony’s PlayStation division has revealed that players have been flocking back to Star Wars Battlefront 2 well before Star Wars day this week and the recently announced Resurgence event. Plus, Steam charts reveal it is on for a successful Resurgence trajectory.
Battlefront Is Surging On PlayStation
Last month, we reported on how DICE’s epic 2017 Battlefront 2 was the 19th most downloaded PS4 game in the USA and Canada for both February and March. Back then we anticipated the game would see some significant growth in April before peaking in May.
On Wednesday, PlayStation released their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads for all of April and it is clear that desire for more Star Wars Battlefront is still well and truly alive.
According to PlayStation, Star Wars Battlefront II was the 8th most downloaded PS4 title in the USA and Canada. This is quite the jump over previous months. Also, the game was the 10th most downloaded game across Europe last month. It previously had not been charting in the region for almost a year now. It will be interesting to see if it can dethrone Red Dead Redemption 2 that has been first place for almost two years now aside from when Battlefront 2 was first for two months last year.

As we have stated before, it is important to note that the PS4 download charts contain downloads made to both PS4 and PS5 consoles. There is no native PS5 version of Battlefront 2 so all downloads are classed in the PS4 charts.
The only of a Star Wars game found in charts on PlayStation for last month is a more unique title. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition was the most downloaded PS VR2 game in both North America and Europe.
Steam Is Small Yet Shows Promise
Due to Star Wars Day on May 4th, Kyber and excitement around a Resurgence, the game is growing in players even more so in recent days. Whilst we can only publicly view the Steam numbers, it is a trend that all the other platforms will be following.
On May 4th and 5th, it had over 9,000 people playing concurrently at one point during the day. This peak is around twice as high as May 4th and 5th last year. The game was also the second trending game on all of Steam just behind Star Wars Outlaws on both of those days.
In other Battlefront news, a date for Resurgence Day has been announced along with more information. Learn more here. Plus, new content is coming to the game via the community-made platform named Kyber.
