Star Wars Battlefront 2 was the most downloaded PS4 game last month despite no new content updates in over 6 years. New charts published by PlayStation has revealed that players are continuing to download Star Wars Battlefront 2 for the first time or re-experience the game they know and love.
Battlefront Takes Over PlayStation
On Wednesday, PlayStation released their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads for all of May. The people have spoken: Star Wars Battlefront 2 is still a much beloved game.
According to PlayStation, Star Wars Battlefront II was the most downloaded PS4 title in the USA and Canada; up from 8th place in April. It had dethroned Red Dead Redemption 2 which has been number one since last summer. This is the same thing that happened last year. Battlefront 2 pushed it off the top spot in May and June before Rockstar’s title got it back again.
As for the European charts, the game was the 2nd most downloaded PS4 title just behind Red Dead Redemption 2. This is another sizeable bump for DICE’s game as it was 10th in the prior month.

As we have stated before, it is important to note that the PS4 download charts contain downloads made to both PS4 and PS5 consoles. There is no native PS5 version of Battlefront 2 so all downloads are classed in the PS4 charts.
The reason for such growth in downloads is a cocktail of factors. We had Star Wars Day on May 4th which naturally brings all Star Wars games up in terms of player count. There was also the Resurgence event led by the community much like last year. Plus, The Mandalorian and Grogu also came out in theatres.
As for other Star Wars games, Star Wars Jedi Survivor was the 18th most downloaded PS5 title last month for Europe. Meanwhile Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition was the 3rd most downloaded PS VR2 game in both North America and 4th in Europe.
In other Battlefront news, a date for Resurgence Day/period is well underway along with more information. Learn more here. Plus, new content is coming to the game via the community-made platform named Kyber.
