Star Wars: Battlefront II game director reveals DICE were working on Ahsoka, Ventress and Mustafar ahead of cancellation

Dennis Brannvall the game director of Star Wars: Battlefront II has revealed some details on what the team at DICE were working on ahead of title being cancelled.

Fans on the Star Wars: Battlefront subreddit started looking back at the release of the 2015 EA reboot and one thread discussing how Nien Nunb and Greedo being last minute editions to the Outer Rim DLC brought Battlefront II game director Dennis Brannvall out of the woodwork.

Dengar in Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)

Brannvall talked about their initial DLC plans for 2015’s entry on Reddit where he reveals that originally Chewbacca and Bossk were initially planned as the first heroes for a Sullust focused DLC pack, but plans shifted and the team brought in Nien Nunb and Greedo along with Jabba’s Palace. Lando Calrissian and IG-88 were planned for the Bespin DLC, but rigging a droid was going to take too long so they replaced IG-88 with Dengar. The Death Star DLC was initially going to feature Obi-Wan Kenobi and Tarkin, but due to Rogue One releasing just three months after the DLC planned to release, the team shifted to Bossk and Chewbacca. The team were initially unsure if they’d be doing Rogue One DLC, of course they did, but if they hadn’t then they were planning on releasing a Mos Eisley pack featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Jyn Erso on Scarif in Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)

Shortly after his Reddit revelations, Brannvall took to Twitter to answer some questions and revealed that Dagobah was never considered for Battlefront as having Rebels and Imperials fighting on the planet felt too unbelievable.

When asked about Mustafar being possibly considered for Battlefront, Brannvall dropped the biggest news of all – there were prototypes of Mustafar, Ahsoka Tano and Asajj Ventress planned to release as part of Clone Wars DLC following the release of Scarif which unfortunately was the final content drop for Star Wars: Battlefront II in April 2020.

Ahsoka and Ventress were long rumoured to be part of DICE’s future plans for Battlefront II and data miners even found various references to the characters within the games files along with Padme Amidala. Coruscant was also long rumoured to be worked on and was heavily requested from players.

We’ve always heard rumours of DICE’s future plans for Battlefront II, my sources close to DICE told me plans for these characters multiple times ahead of the cancellation, but it’s still extremely disappointing to Brannvall confirm what the team were developing as the future of Battlefront II seemed very bright.
