Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster Gets A New Physical Release

The Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster by Nightdive Studios is getting another physical release. Details on this wider availability launch have been revealed by the studio and the game’s publisher Atari.

Released in February 2024, the Star Wars Dark Forces Remaster was highly praised for faithfully looking after the classic game and bringing it to modern platforms almost 30 years after it originally came out. Nightdive even included some extra bonus content such as a cut level not found in the first version three decades prior.

When the remaster first came out it was digital only across PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. A few months later, a physical version of the game was announced for Xbox, PS5 and Nintendo Switch via Limited Run Games.

There were three editions made available: Standard, premium, and Master. Each included different physical offerings at varying price points. Given that this was a distribution deal via Limited Run Games, there were only a few thousand copies made. However, there is some good news for fans who were looking to get a physical copy of the game.

The Force Is Strong With This One

Nightdive revealed on Twitter this week that physical copies are now widely available on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.

There is some slight differences between this latest physical copy and the Limited Run Games variant. This Atari published re-release contains the full Dark Forces Remaster key art and logo whereas the LTR one has a flat, white logo and the middle Stormtrooper takes up most of the cover. You can see them below.

It is a shame the Xbox version has not gotten a re-release for its physical edition but it is good to see more people will be able to get this game physically. The game looks to be complete on both disc and cartridge (no code in box!) which is a must for big time collectors. This is great to see over two years after the initial launch.

This new version retails for $29.99 / £29.99 and can be purchased from various stores such as Amazon, GAME and GameStop. Atari will also be selling it but their store link is not working at the time of writing.
