A new report has provided information progress on Star Wars Eclipse‘s development and it is a mixed bag for the eagerly anticipated game.
It has been a little over 4 years since the game was announced and revealed in a stunning trailer during The Game Awards. Due to its intriguing trailer, Eclipse has been one of the most anticipated Star Wars projects in years with it racking up millions of views and plenty of fans often requesting updates. Unfortunately for the legion of fans, the game’s production is reportedly not anywhere close to hitting lightspeed.
Previous Developments
Let’s start with a quick recap on what we previously heard as few people have heard about developments from last year. The most recent update we had from Quantic Dream was back in October. They said the game is still continuing through development and that they were “eager” to share more.
In the same year, Star Wars gaming YouTuber AZZATRU shared a casting sheet revealing main character and plot info. He also showed how Quantic Dream had been hiring in key positions every week or so throughout 2025. This included Devin John Doyle who became the game’s lead writer following Adam Williams’ exit from the company.
Bantha Pace

With over 4 years into development and nothing to show in that time, fans have been worried about its status and Insider Gaming is now reporting problems on the project. During an episode of the outlet’s weekly podcast, a viewer asked if the Insider Gaming crew could provide any news on the game. To which Mike Straw from the publication exclaimed “Quantic Dream is not in a good place right now!”
He went onto say that “It’s part of the situation where NetEase is divesting a lot of their western studios. They don’t know what they want and Quantic Dream is one of those studios.” For context, the French studio was acquired by Chinese publisher back in the summer of 2022 for around €100 million.
“What I’ve been told about Eclipse is that it is very slow going where they are making very little progress over months. It is at a snail’s pace for development of Eclipse… It isn’t in development hell but it is very slow.”
On a more positive note, Straw does state “They have a good chunk done”. Parts of the game are now complete but according to an article by Straw, a source close to the game told him that only a small amount of progress has been made in a number of months. This has one source saying it could be years away from being ready for release.
Not So Easy

The main problem is NetEase’s handling of all this. Straw talked about discussions of a sale of Quantic Dream. Whilst the company wants to keep expanding the dev team, NetEase are refusing to invest in the projects at the moment including Eclipse but do not want to shut down the studio.
Both companies are said to be now relying on their next collaboration, Spellcasters Chronicles, to succeed to help out Eclipse. Revenue from the multiplayer title would essential fund Star Wars Eclipse’s ongoing development. If Spellcasters fails to meet financial demands then NetEase could end up reevaluating its ownership of Quantic Dream.
Insider Gaming previously reported the game was targeting a 2026 release back in 2023.
