Star Wars: Eclipse officially revealed at The Game Awards

After months of rumours, Star Wars: Eclipse, has finally been officially announced by Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm.

Back in September Tom Henderson reported that Quantic Dream were working on a Star Wars video game and at the time the title had been in development for several months. Kotaku followed up reporting that the title action orientated, possibly open-world and would feature multilayer elements. Lastly, last month Jeff Grub reported that the title of the game was Star Wars: Eclipse and is set during the High Republic era.

The press release on StarWars.com offers up some more information about the title, “Star Wars: Eclipse will feature an original story and unique new characters, each with their own paths, abilities, and roles to play in the tapestry of events that could alter the carefully balanced peace in an uncharted section of the Outer Rim. Star Wars Eclipse will be an intricately branching action-adventure game that can be experienced in multiple ways, putting the destinies of an array of playable characters in your hands. Your choices will be at the heart of the experience, as every decision can have a dramatic impact on the course of the story. Through these decisions, players will forge their own legend in the golden age of the Jedi. Star Wars Eclipse is currently in the early stages of development at Quantic Dream’s studios in Paris, France and Montreal, Canada.”

Quantic Dream are best know for their games Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human. Kotaku previously said that Eclipse will be a departure from their previous releases, which are quick time event driven. Personally I wasn’t a fan of those titles, but based on everything I’ve heard about Eclipse, I am truly excited.

Don’t expect Eclipse anytime soon though, I’ve heard from my sources that game is years away – 2024 at the EARLIEST. It’s my understanding that Knights of the Old Republic Remake from Aspyr will release ahead of Eclipse. I have no timeline for the untitled open-world Star Wars Ubisoft game being developed by Massive Entertainment (Tom Clancey’s The Division), but the studio working on that title is currently working on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora which is set for a late 2022 release.
