Another new development update on Star Wars Eclipse has been revealed. This one though comes from a video game union representing workers that are at risk of losing their jobs at Quantic Dream.
On Wednesday, the French video game maker announced that they would be cancelling their multiplayer title Spellcasters Chronicles. In the announcement, the company stated that there would be an internal reorganisation. This might involve some staff may move onto other projects. Many assumed this would include Star Wars Eclipse as that is their main project currently in production.
However, things don’t look as positive as Quantic Dream claim. STJV, a video game workers union based in France put out a damning statement on Thursday morning.
Shots Fired
It is claimed by the union that Quantic Dream will be cutting 95 jobs. That’s around a quarter of the entire company. What is effectively getting rid of the entire Spellcasters Chronicles. This is under the guise that their skills are not transferable to Star Wars Eclipse. Given that we’ve heard eclipse has portions of the game completed, and that lack of staff is what is holding progress back, this is extremely disappointing to see.
Furthermore, STJV claim Star Wars Eclipse and Spellcasters Chronicles both entered production at the same time and the Star Wars title is facing just as complicated development as the multiplayer game. This is because of the same management (Guillaume de Fondaumière, David Cage and Grégorie Diaconu) running both projects. Workers on Spellcasters Chronicles raised big concerns several times over the course of years say STJV.

“Management is trying to cut the entirety of the Spellcasters Chronicles team, and pretends that this team’s skills have no link at all with those of the Star Wars Eclipse team – even after training. This is an obvious lie, and shows how little the management understands how layoffs work in France, recalling the inanity of Don’t Nod’s layoffs plan in 2024. Pretending that Spellcasters workers are unable to work on Star Wars Eclipse, and vice versa, is an insult to everyone working at Quantic Dream.”
STJV
The union is demanding a number of things from Quantic Dream and NetEase. One of those is no job losses and the entire Spellcasters Chronicles team is moved on to Star Wars Eclipse to help get that game over the finish line. There is also the call for resignations from the decision makers.
