Star Wars Galactic Racer is shaping up to be some gamer’s most anticipated game of the year thanks to its impressive visuals, gameplay options and a return to motorsport in a galaxy far, far away. Just days after a stunning showing during a PlayStation State of Play event, Fuse Games’ top staff have taken part in interviews with news outlets to reveal even more information about the game.
Whilst almost all of the new details have fans desperate to get into a pod racer, there has been some fair criticism lobbied on one particular point: post launch content. There has been one (Hunters which has now shut down) multiplayer game in nearly 6 years when it comes to Star Wars games.
Before that, it was Star Wars Squadrons which only had one big post launch content drop and the playerbase quickly disappeared. Only Star Wars Battlefront II, which received great content on a near monthly basis for two years, has survived…
Current Plans

It is fantastic to see Galactic Racer feature multiplayer but with no new content, it can only last so long. Let’s take a look at what Fuse Games’ CEO and founder Matt Webster and the game’s creative director Kieran Crimmins told IGN this week.
When asked if there would be a season pass, Webster said no. He views season passes as parts of free-to-play games and this is a full priced game with a single player campaign, arcade modes and multiplayer. That said, the CEO does note Star Wars evolves and there might be opportunities to “tap into more Star Wars or new Star Wars over time”. However, when it comes to outlining post launch, it is not going to have a season pass style level of content.
Crimmins gives additional info from their side on this. He told IGN that their current mindset is to make the best game possible and ship it. The creative director does admit the door is not completely closed for post launch content though but “that isn’t what we are really thinking about right now. We just want it to be the very best game it can be, and we want it to be complete when it comes out.”

There’s More To It
This is not entirely surprising to find out. Fuse Games are a new studio and this is their first game. Overcommitting, to a niche title, might not end well. It is also a fairly small studio too with a fraction of developers compared to the far larger Star Wars games of the past decade. There is far more nuance to the situation than they just do not want to give us anything after launch.
That said, just a few small bits of content post launch would go a long way. With an already vocal group coming out and wanting proper post launch content, we can only hope Fuse Games hear this and takes the feedback onboard.
