Lucasfilm announced late on Thursday that Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will be getting a season 2. This is was quite the shock to fans given the show’s first season has not even begun airing yet.
The latest show from Lucasfilm Animation has quite some excitement surrounding it from fans but it was never really marketed as a show that could have more than one season. However, they never claimed it would be a limited series either. If anything it felt like it would depend on how successful and/or acclaimed the show ends up becoming once it has been fully released next month.
In an article on the official Star Wars website, Lucasfilm’s co-president Dave Filoni confirms that Maul’s “journey will continue with a second season”.
We previously wrote about the titles for the show’s first season. Chapter 10, the last episode of the season, is currently titled “Finale”. When this name first was revealed by Lucasfilm, many fans assumed this meant the show was a limited one and there would be no continuation after this.
In contrast, we speculated that it could be a placeholder with the actual title being a big spoiler. Given the Season 2 announcement, it is now far more likely to be a placeholder for something important come May 4th.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord premieres on April 6th 2026 at 12am PT for Disney+ subscribers. There will be 10 episodes over the course of 5 weeks. Are you excited for Maul – Shadow Lord? Let us know down in the comments section below.
