Patty Jenkins’ upcoming Star Wars flick, Rogue Squadron has reportedly been delayed indefinitely due to scheduling conflicts.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins was set to enter pre-production on the film later this year with plans to film the movie in 2022. However producers and the filmmaking team have supposedly come to the realisation that Jenkins’ schedule and other commitments wouldn’t allow the window needed to film the flick next year.
THR say that the film has been completely removed from the production schedule with the hopes that once Jenkins fulfils her other duties, she’ll be able to return to Rogue Squadron.
Personally I don’t see how Lucasfilm and Jenkins came to this realisation so late, surely it’s just an excuse. Jenkins is set to write and direct a third entry in the Wonder Woman franchise for Warner Bros. which will star Gal Gadot and Lynda Carter along with a Cleopatra film starring Gal Gadot for Paramount. Jenkins would’ve known about these commitments before she and Lucasfilm announced the December 2023 release date for Rogue Squadron. It was previously reported that Jenkins would film Wonder Woman 3 after Rogue Squadron. However it’s honestly what I’ve come to expect from Lucasfilm these days. I am never optimistic for a film to enter a production.
The news doesn’t come as a shock to me as I and others have been hearing for a number of weeks that something wasn’t right behind the scenes. Over the weekend it was reported that an unknown Star Wars film was aiming to shoot next year and wasn’t Rogue Squadron, Taika Waititi’s film or Kevin Feige’s with rumours suggesting it’ll be based on Knights of the Old Republic.
