Next year is going to be an absolutely huge year for Star Wars as a franchise and for its fans. With two theatrical releases, the promise of a news-filled Celebration and potential video game launches, there is hope once again.
IMAX have just re-confirmed the two theatrical Star Wars releases in 2027 will be coming to the format’s big screens. As part of the Canadian company’s latest presentation to investors, their upcoming slate has been put out in full showing what to expect through 2027.
Both Star Wars Starfighter and the historic Star Wars 50th anniversary re-release will be showing in IMAX per the document. Whilst Starfighter being in IMAX is not entirely unexpected given all Disney-era Star Wars films have been released in the format, fans will be pleased to see the original version of A New Hope pop into these screens. Re-releases of older Star Wars films have not always made their way into IMAX previously.
The newly restored version of Star Wars’ 1977 version will be out in cinemas from February 19th 2027 for a limited time. Meanwhile Star Wars Starfighter releases on May 28th 2027. IMAX ticket purchase information will be provided at a later date.

Before each of these releases though we have The Mandalorian and Grogu out this May. That too is an IMAX release and it has been part of the marketing. Speaking of which, a recent report has revealed insiders within Disney feel the film’s marketing has not been up to scratch. Despite that though, sources are praising Star Wars Starfighter based on footage they have seen of it so far. Learn more here.
