Star Wars Starfighter is shaping up to be the film fans have been looking for according inside sources at Disney/Lucasfilm. This is coming from a new report by Variety. It details the internal feeling towards Star Wars and its future.
We are several weeks away from Star Wars’ return to the big screen after over six years. The Mandalorian and Grogu will be playing in theatres and at IMAX screens worldwide on May 22nd but the marketing campaign has not been success or so far.
Slow Train Wreck
Variety’s report details that concerns have been felt internally over that Super Bowl spot. We previously took a look at the reactions from fans online and it was not good. A data firm who work with Disney later revealed it really did not do anything special and is tracking below what along the way to return for big screen Star Wars should be hitting.
Staffers inside of Disney think the Jon Favreau-directed ad failed to generate the excitement marketing folks were hoping for. I think we all know that. It does not taking a rocket scientist. That said, the recent trailer did at least help to the extent but it’s on known how far that will help move the needle.

A New Hope?
The one project that is coming out from Lucasfilm and does have more excitement behind it is Star Wars Starfighter. The Ryan Gosling-led flick will be out in a little over year yet for some fans they’re already looking past this May’s film for next years.
Variety report that there is a feeling that Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Starfighter is “more likely to satisfy fans” when it comes out on May 28th 2027. Ryan Gosling’s performance has received praise by those who have seen footage of the film so far. Meanwhile Levy who is directing the film is said to have “recaptured the franchise’s spirit of fun.”
It is going to be very interesting to see how The Mandalorian and Grogu performs at the box office and what the consensus on Star Wars Starfighter ends up becoming.
