Today Collider are reporting that the highly anticipated live-action Star Wars series, The Acolyte, is set to air on Disney+ sometime this Summer.
You may recall an article I wrote back in September which detailed various live-action Star Wars series suffering a delay which featured Skeleton Crew, Andor season two, and The Acolyte. Within the article released five months ago, I shared that The Acolyte was initially planned for the second quarter of 2024 from what I had heard months before, but that it had suffered a delay into the Summer. At the time I didn’t know specifically when and still don’t, I merely speculated that it could take the August release window that the second season of Andor was targeting given that Lucasfilm seem to like that window as both seasons of Andor were both first planned for August releases and Ahsoka season one released in August last year. Again, August is merely speculation and outside of Summer, I don’t know when The Acolyte will air.
My report from September also mentioned that Skeleton Crew wouldn’t release until the Fall of 2024, closer to November, from what I was hearing and was backed up in November last year by a report from MakingStarWars. The same report mentioned that I’d heard Andor season two had been delayed until early 2025, and this was backed up by Germain Lussier of Gizmodo. Now, we have Collider sharing that The Acolyte will air this Summer. I’m happy to see that other reputable outlets have been hearing what I have.
This year is shaping up to be a fun one for Star Wars fans with two live-action series in the form of The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, a video game in Star Wars: Outlaws and the third season of the animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Personally I’m most excited to see The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew after seeing the trailers for both at Star Wars Celebration last year, especially The Acolyte given the creatives involved, the production and tone of the series.
The Acolyte, which is set during the High Republic era, will follow a former padawan and her Jedi master as they investigate a series of crimes, but encounter forces more sinister than what they’ve imagined. The series stars Amandla Stenberg (Bodies, Bodies, Bodies) as the lead, as well as Lee Jung Jae (Squid Game), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Jodie Turner-Smith (After Yang), Charlie Bennett (Russian Doll), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Dean Charles Chapman (1917), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) and Margarita Levieva (Daredevil: Born Again).
