Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has not wrapped, Filming could run until December

Last week it was reported by Puck News that the next theatrical Star Wars release, The Mandalorian and Grogu, the follow-up film to the successful Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, had wrapped filming ahead of its May 22nd, 2026 release date. Many, myself included, shared and credit the Puck News tidbit which was part of a report that revealed the writer of the Daisy Riley led Star Wars: New Jedi Order (working title), Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) had exited the project, which was later confirmed by the Hollywood trades.

However, since I covered the news that Mando had wrapped, two sources reached out to offer some clarification on the situation. In the process of writing this article, Lateef Crowder, one of Din Djarin’s stuntmen, shared a post on his Instagram story of him driving with stickers of The Mandalorian imagery and the word ‘Bom Dia’ on the screen. Though Crowder didn’t outright say that this was related to work on The Mandalorian and Grogu, perhaps this was Crowder implying that The Mandalorian and Grogu was still filming and was Crowder’s way of responding to the reports that the movie had wrapped.

What I’ve heard from two sources is that The Mandalorian and Grogu could film until around December. One source outright said December and the other said “nearly two months.” It was mentioned that many cast members had concluded work on the flick, and perhaps this is why it was thought filming had finished. Nobody has said this part to me, it’s my speculation, but it’s possible that on paper ‘principal photography’ has concluded, but filming is ongoing. Either way, The Mandalorian and Grogu is still filming for now.

One source mentioned that the film has planned reshoots, a regular practice and nothing for fans to be concerned with. I don’t know if those reshoots are taking place during this period that runs until December or sometime after.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is now due to release until May of 2026, giving Lucasfilm plenty of time to shoot the flick and go back for pickups and reshoots. It was also mentioned previously that Pedro Pascal was expected to shoot scenes for The Mandalorian and Grogu later this year. Pascal has been busy filming Fantastic Four: First Steps since July and that film is expected to wrap in November or December. Pascal is also gearing up to embark on the promotional tour for Gladiator II which releases in theatres on November 22nd.

Being passionate about Star Wars led to the beginning of Bespin Bulletin in 2019. The goal was to create a publication for well-sourced information and add insights not found elsewhere for fans. So far, many exclusive stories have been published by Bespin. This has paved a long, reputable track record. Large outlets such as IGN have sourced the Bulletin's reporting.
