Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu blasts into theatres in a matter of days which means the reviews for the film are out. Unfortunately, it is bad news for Disney and Lucasfilm in their first big screen outing from a galaxy far, far away in nearly 7 years.
Reviews published by critics and influencers that got to see the film early reveal the the film is middling at best. It’s pretty much what people expected. A fairly basic film that plays it extremely safe. There isn’t going to be some big reveal that opens up the next stage of Star Wars storytelling.
There is praise for various aspects such as its action sequences and Rotta being a standout character. However, it is said development is lacking especially on the main characters side. Even some outlets you may expect to have been more favourable towards Star Wars put the film into the 6/10 camp.
After 119 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, it is sitting at a 60% score. This is one of the lowest scores for Star Wars film. In comparison, it is higher than the last film The Rise of Skywalker but comes below Solo: A Star Wars Story. On Metacritic, the film has a score of 54 based on 38 critic reviews. This is one point more than The Rise of Skywalker which had 61 critic reviews.

It’s really a shame to see wasted potential when it comes to Star Wars. It has been such a long wait filled with films being constantly delayed indefinitely. The big return is what appears to be a just “ok” movie that doesn’t drive Star Wars forward. We all want good Star Wars. There is still hope though.
