In just six weeks, the first new Star Wars film to release in over six years will be out and fans are clamouring for more news and information ahead of its theatrical release after we got new footage and plot details last week. Those wanting to know how long it will be now have something to read.
Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu might have just got its final runtime leaked by a cinema chain. We’ll be taking a look at this runtime compared to previous Star Wars films to see if it is one of the shortest or longest.
As spotted by Reddit user Matapple13, AMC Theatres have added a runtime to their page for The Mandalorian and Grogu. The Mandalorian and Grogu has a runtime of 2 hours and 12 minutes according to this listing. There will likely be around 10 minutes of credits. This runtime is also listed by HOYTS via Reddit user ellierobinsonwrites adding credence to the length of the movie.
This is a few minutes under the placeholder that was put up by Odeon cinemas last month. The reliable insider Cryptic4KQual also said last month that the placeholder was not that far off only by a few minutes.
Every Star Wars Film Runtime

For comparison, we’ve listed the runtimes of every single Star Wars film that came before it below. You are able to see that the Jon Favreau-directed flick is the third shortest Star Wars film ever if this is accurate. It would only be longer than Episode IV A New Hope and Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.
- Star Wars: A New Hope – 2 hours 5 mins
- Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back – 2 hours 7 mins
- Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – 2 hours 16 mins
- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace – 2 hours 16 mins
- Star Wars: Attack of the Clones – 2 hours 22 mins
- Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith – 2 hours 20 mins
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 2 hours 15 mins
- Star Wars: The Last Jedi – 2 hours 33 mins
- Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – 2 hours 22 mins
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – 2 hours 13 mins
- Solo: A Star Wars Story – 2 hours 15 mins
Ultimately, length of a film or piece of media is irrelevant if it is paced well and says everything it needs to. Something that some Star Wars fans have been hung up on in recent years has been the runtimes of episodes for the Disney+ shows. Longer run times don’t always equate to better pieces of media. Sometimes shorter, well-paced productions end up taking the cake.
That said, fans have been used to getting 8 episodes of sometimes upwards of an hour for The Mandalorian for three seasons. Now it has been reduced to 2 hours, it might be a bit of a tough pill for some to swallow; depending on its content and quality of course.
We’ll be sure to keep readers updated with the runtime if it change as it might be yet another placeholder. Also, stay tuned for the date announcement for tickets going on sale. The Mandalorian and Grogu blasts into theatres on May 22nd 2026.
