Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu has been released and with the weekend almost over, box office figures have been updated. For the first Star Wars film in almost 7 years, it has not been the all-conquering force the previous films bar Solo: A Star Wars Story have been but there is some optimism coming from a new report.
Deadline have published the Jon Favreau-directed flick is now tracking to achieve a $97-98m four-day weekend box office opening in the United States of America. The outlet previously had it pencilled in it in excess of $80 million.
This improved projection is thanks to a stronger Saturday haul of $25.5m. The figure is a little increase over Solo’s $24.6m Saturday although ticket prices were lower back then. Opening day figures on Friday are said to be $34m and this was $1.3m less than Solo did. Thursday previews were also lower than the Ron Howard-film. Ot earned $12m which is $2.1m fewer.
The Hollywood trade has also revealed sources claim The Mandalorian and Grogu should be netting $69m internationally. Combining the two figures put it at $160m+ with $167m on the higher end count. Solo did $52m internationally back in 2018.

The film’s success now rests on walk-ups. Will families turn up to check out a standalone Star Wars film? We’ll soon find out. Critics panned the film last week in their reviews but fans are flocking to rave about it. It has 62% and 89% Rotten Tomatoes ratings respectively. The film has also been given a A- CinemaScore. This is the same as Solo: A Star Wars Story.
