The next theatrical Star Wars release, the first since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has reportedly finished filming according to a report from Puck News.
In the latest piece from Puck News that broke writer, Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), had exited Star Wars: New Jedi Order (working title), it was mentioned that The Mandalorian and Grogu, a film written by Jon Favreau (The Mandalorian) and Dave Filoni (Ahsoka), and directed by the former, has recently finished filming ahead of its May 22nd, 2026 release date.

Principal photography on The Mandalorian and Grogu reportedly began in July of this year, but that some scenes were shot in June. During the D23 Expo this Summer, a teaser for the Star Wars film was shown exclusively to those in attendance and was not released to the public, though you can read a description of the trailer here.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is the follow up to the hit Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, which spawned three seasons. The planned fourth season of the series was morphed into The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. Executive producer of The Mandalorian and The Mandalorian and Grogu, Dave Filoni, is slated to follow up the release with his crossover event film which will include characters and plot points from the ‘MandoVerse’ which includes series such as The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and The Book of Boba Fett. No release date or title for Filoni’s crossover film have been revealed, but the project was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London.
The next live-action Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, takes place during the same time as other ‘MandoVerse’ series and is due to premiere on Disney+ on December 3rd. It’s unclear if any characters or plot points from the series will impact the future Filoni movie. The second season of Ahsoka is due begin filming in the Spring of 2025 and will likely arrive on the small screen the following year.
