After over a half a year since the first The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer was put out by Lucasfilm and Disney, we might be getting the big one in the not too distant future.
Last weekend, Lucasfilm had director Jon Favreau lead a Super Bowl ad to promote the film. It missed the mark for a lot of Star Wars fans. It performed poorly in terms of engagement with the wider audience as well according to a data firm that Disney work with. The want for a new trailer is there but the lack of one last week in exchange for something misunderstood left a sour taste in mouths.
Based on previous patterns from Lucasfilm, a trailer should be coming soon. We expand on this later in an article from Thursday. Since then, a small note from The Hollywood Reporter claims it is on its way.
In the most recent edition of their Heat Vision insider newsletter (spotted by Major-Hand3931), the trade discussed the recent Super Bowl spot. They acknowledged the fans’ negative feelings towards the ad. To help reduce the qualms, THR say “Don’t worry Star Nerds, there will be a new trailer out very soon.”
Whilst no date is given, this is not a huge surprise. As we said previously, theatrical releases typically get final trailers six to eight weeks before its release. Plus, Lucasfilm and Disney kicked off the marketing this week. Lots of new toys and other merchandise were revealed yesterday by director Jon Favreau at New York Toy Fair. Whilst a lot of these products have not really made big waves among fans that are not children it is a start even if underwhelming.
Fans have a right to feel this way though. This is the first Star Wars film on the big screen in over 6 years. It needs to be good. Excitement for it is just not high right now.
