Lucasfilm ended the Star Wars segment of the Lucasfilm Studio Showcade with an almighty bang by officially announcing not one, not two, but THREE brand new films. One of course is helmed by Ms. Marvel’s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which has been reported by various outlets for more than six months and has been in development for over a year. In addition to Obaid-Chinoy, Kathleen Kennedy brought none other than Dave Filoni onto the stage and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director, James Mangold, confirming Mangold and Filoni will be also be helming individual Star Wars movies.

Kathleen Kennedy started off by revealing that the next slate of films would not be part of a new saga, but taking place across various timelines. The earliest of which will be helmed by James Mangold, who’s movie will focus on the first Jedi and the origins of the force. Mangold didn’t reveal much regarding his movie, but did share that it’s set 25,000 years ago and described it as biblical and inspired by Ben-Hur. Kathleen Kennedy revealed that his past work and his work on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has been so good, it felt like a no brainer to allow Mangold to tackle Star Wars. James Mangold, according to Kennedy, has been bringing up the idea of him handling a Star Wars project for years, and recently he pitched her on his idea which she loved, and got him talking with Dave Filoni, where it was agreed that Mangold’s vision warrants him getting his much desired Star Wars flick which he’ll both write and direct.

Next up was Dave Filoni, who’s film will act as the crossover event of the various television series he’s executive produced over the last few years including The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and The Book of Boba Fett. Little details were added, but it’ll follow the battle between the New Republic and the Imperial remnant, and of course, it’ll feature many characters seen across the multiple series Filoni has produced alongside Jon Favreau, who will also be producing on this film. Kathleen Kennedy and Jon Favreau praised Filoni to the high heavens throughout the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase, with Kennedy later saying that Dave Filoni has been building towards directing his own live-action Star Wars movie for over ten years.

Lastly, we have have Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s movie. The flick will take place fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and will focus on Daisy Ridley’s Rey forging a new Jedi academy. Daisy Ridley herself took to the stage to fans delight but unfortunately did not share any additional details regarding the project. However, Kathleen Kennedy told IGN that the Jedi are in disarray, with many questions who they are and what they stand for, with Rey Skywalker tackling the task of rebuilding the Jedi order with the knowledge of the books she’s read and her promise to Luke Skywalker, with Luke’s presence being felt within Rey throughout the movie.

Not one of the films had a release date confirmed, despite Lucasfilm reserving two dates in December 2025, and December 2027. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s flick has been long rumoured to be taking the 2025 date, but it was no mention of it here. James Mangold’s project is likely the furthest away, when talking with Collider, he me thinks that he’s currently writing both his Star Wars movie and Swamp Thing for DC Studios and doesn’t know which will happen first. Kennedy in her interview with IGN mentioned that all three movies will act as standalone movies, but it’s possible they could receive sequels in the future.
