Ubisoft’s Star Wars video game revealed! Trailer for Star Wars: Outlaws released

After years of anticipation, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have officially debuted a trailer for their long awaited Star Wars video game at the Xbox and Bethesda 2023 Showcase, revealing a release window of 2024 along with the games title, Star Wars: Outlaws.

Before we continue with Outlaws news, I’d just like to share that you can now support my work in two ways. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a single tier at this time simply to support my work. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

Outlaws takes place during the original trilogy era, specifically between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and focuses on an emerging scoundrel and our lead protagonist, Kay Vess (voiced by Humberly González)who’s seeking freedom and the means to start a new life. Vess states that this time is regarded as dangerous, due to the Empire being everywhere – but not where Vess operates, those worlds are controlled by various crime syndicates. We see flashes of the Pyke syndicate seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Book of Boba Fett, along with Jabba the Hutt’s crew as Gamoreon Guards wheel Han Solo, who’s frozen in carbonite, into Jabba’s palace.

We see Vess playing a game of Sabacc, cheating with the help of her four legged companion, Nix (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker), inside of a cantina and we get glimpses of many recognisable species from the Star Wars universe including Quarren’s and Twi’lek’s before bounty hunter’s arrive and disrupt Kay’s good time, which causes a brawl and the scoundrel to flee. As we follow Vess on the run, we witness various locations featured in the upcoming game before she’s confronted by a mysterious man named Jalen and a Commando Droid on her ship who offer our hero a way out.

Though unconfirmed, it seems Jalen’s offer is for Kay is to take part in a heist as we see her approaching and entering a vault. We see flashes of Vess taking out thugs on speeder bikes, jumping to lightspeed and more locations featured in Outlaws, as Kay declares that the underworld shows no mercy, but ends the trailer on a hopeful note, stating that there’s a big galaxy out there as she looks to set off on her exciting adventure.

Ubisoft has revealed that Outlaws will feature iconic locations from the Star Wars universe as well as new and exciting original locations designed by Massive Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. Even though the game debuted at the Xbox showcase, it is not an Xbox exclusive and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Ubisoft will also be debuting gameplay footage of Outlaws tomorrow during Ubisoft’s own showcase, Ubisoft Forward which takes place at 6PM BST.

In an article I shared last month which noted that Ubisoft were hoping to release their Star Wars title within this fiscal year, which runs up until the end of March 2024. I speculated that Ubisoft would likely debut a trailer this year despite reports that a 2024 release seemed very unlikely from those connected to the project and would likely need an additional year in development. I’d recently heard rumblings that my suspicions were true and that we’d get to see a trailer for Outlaws very soon, with my suspicion being Ubisoft Forward, which will reportedly feature gameplay.

Star Wars: Outlaws is being developed by Massive Entertainment, the developers behind Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, a video game based on the extremely successful franchise created by James Cameron. Both Pandora and Outlaws are expected to be released before April next year.
