What I’ve heard about the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

It’s been quite some time since I mentioned the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, so perhaps it’s time for an update. In January of 2020 I mentioned that the game was already in development and that EA wanted to release the title in the Fall of 2022 (I was the first to report so). Months following I’d heard details regarding characters appearing, then shortly after the world was in chaos.

Over the past year I’ve occasionally asked my sources, who previously provided me with accurate information that I shared publicly such as information on Star Wars: Squadrons, and details on Star Wars: Battlefront II that I never released, including EA cancelling support. Usually I’ve been met with the same answers, that they’re taking it one day at a time and that safety is paramount – as it should be. However we’ve now entered the year I was initially told the title was planned to release…so I asked for an update.

One source I spoke to told me that though the team is still taking it day-by-day, and navigating the complications that comes with working on a video game in these COVID times, but the goal is to officially unveil footage at Star Wars Celebration 2022. Multiple sources previously told me last year that Respawn intended to debut footage from the sequel to Fallen Order at Celebration next year (this), and it appears to still be the plan at this time. The source told me that the HOPE was still to release the title in late 2022, but it’s not locked in and things could easily change and a delay into next year is a very real possibility.

I decided to reach out to a second and third source – one being trusted and respected industry insider Jeff Grubb. I relayed what I was told and shortly after they both came back with an update. The sources had been told similar things as I, that unveiling the title at Star Wars Celebration is still a real possibility and that releasing the title this year was possible, but one source said that the chances aren’t great. Yesterday Jeff Grubb revealed during his GiantBomb show, GrubbSnax, that it’ll be shown before E3 2022 and suggested a May unveiling. Its worth mentioning that an announcement for May the 4th is quite possible with a full trailer debut at Celebration mere weeks later.

Lucasfilm and EA have typically released a video game ahead, or line, with a big live-action project. EA’s Battlefront launched in November 2015, just one month ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The second Battlefront instalment launched one month ahead of The Last Jedi. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order during the same month as The Mandalorian season one, and one month ahead of The Rise of Skywalker. Lastly Star Wars: Squadrons launched one month ahead of the second season of The Mandalorian.

If Lucasfilm and EA want to keep up this tradition, a tradition that’s used to help sell the game by coasting on the hype and excitement of a new Star Wars live-action project releasing, then there’s options. The third season of The Mandalorian is rumoured to release in late 2022, which would coincide with the initial release window the Fallen Order sequel had and is still aiming for. Following that, Ahsoka, is rumoured to release during the Spring of 2023 and The Acolyte a few months later.

The Fallen Order sequel, which I believe won’t sport the name Fallen Order – it will be Star Wars Jedi: followed by a new subtitle (I don’t know the subtitle) and will not be called Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, will feature returning characters from its predecessor, some with larger roles, along with exciting existing Star Wars characters that weren’t featured in the first instalment. At this time I don’t want to give away who those characters are, I’ve been told about them since 2020, but with the game possibly not even releasing this year, I don’t want to ruin any surprises this early on.

From what I’ve gathered from various sources, following the Fallen Order sequel, the next game in line to release will be the Knights of the Old Republic Remake in 2023 or 2024 (hopefully). The last thing I heard on LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was that April is when the game is looking to release, but it’s not set in stone and things are ever changing in the current landscape due to COVID-19, which has already forced multiple delays upon The Skywalker Saga – I was told this information in both November and December of 2021. I was unfortunate to not get any updates on the second Star Wars title currently being worked on under EA.

I hope to be able to share more information with you on the upcoming Star Wars video games in the coming months. Whilst you’re here, perhaps consider supporting my work on Ko-Fi, it would be greatly appreciated. Our podcast also made a return this week following a festive break, and you can listen to the latest episode below.
