Writers Reportedly Assembled For New Star Wars Series

A new Star Wars show is reportedly in the works following recent developments at Lucasfilm.

It has been a quiet period on the future of Star Wars shows streaming on Disney+. Whilst the second season of Ahsoka is due out later this year, that is all that has been confirmed to be in active development by the company. In contrast, fans have been used to having plenty of shows being in production over the past several years: from beloved shows with multiple seasons such as The Mandalorian and Andor to limited series like Obi-Wan kenobi. The future of Star Wars TV is the most uncertain it has been in quite some time.

Even reliable reports have been fairly thin in the past year. Almost nothing has slipped out of the house of mouse in this department aside from a couple of things. Andor show runner Tony Gilroy mentioned in an interview Lucasfilm had a horror project in development. Also, reputable insider Jeff Sneider reported Carlton Cuse and son Nick Cuse are writing an unknown Star Wars series for Disney+. Variety later confirmed its existence. Both of these stories broke in April last year. Since then, we have not heard anything else.

This may now have changed. According to a Twitter user named @FivesWalker, Lucasfilm set up a writer’s room for a new live action Star Wars show around January this year. This person could not provide any more information. Could this be related to the Cuse show? Maybe. Or is it something totally different? We’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully we won’t have to wait until next year’s Star Wars Celebration.

    How Accurate Is This?

It’s important to give some context and track record for this account. Whilst new to leaking information, FivesWalker has received and published accurate information on various Star Wars projects.

For example, they correctly confirmed plot details for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. They also shared how some directors within the Mandoverse had pitched their own projects; this is something The Wrap reported on months later.

Plus, they were first to report that James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie is dead which was later reported by Jeff Sneider. They have also reported a few other things which are yet to come to fruition. We’ll have to wait and see if they end up being true and working out. So given the track record, this recent development is something we can see as being legitimate.
