The live-action Star Wars Disney+ series created by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Christopher Ford (Spider-Man: Homecoming) was set to release towards the tail end of this year, but from what I’ve been hearing from sources, the series has been delayed to 2024.

Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can support my work in two ways for which I’d be extremely grateful. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a two tier’s at this time – one to simply to support my work and a second which features ad-free articles. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

Skeleton Crew began filming in the Summer of 2022 and wrapped in January/February of this year with a planned release for later in the year. Originally I had heard that the series was aiming to release in November or December this year, something I mentioned in a past article months before one of the actors in the series, Jaleel White, confirmed that Skeleton Crew was looking to release at the time I had mentioned. As months went by, I kept hearing that a late November release was on the cards and I was gearing up to release that information around three weeks ago, that was until I started hearing rumblings of a delay.

Since then sources have informed me that Skeleton Crew has been delayed until an unknown time in 2024. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks attempting to gather more information, but I didn’t get much outside of its apparent delay. One person I spoke with mentioned that the series COULD be delayed by an entire year, looking at a November 2024 release, but I could not get that information confirmed by a second source, so do not take that possible window as a fact.

One source mentioned that the current schedule of Star Wars live-action content is in flux and fluid due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which means other series planned for 2024 such as The Acolyte, the high republic era series created by Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland, a series I’ve heard Lucasfilm are confident in, along with the second and final season of Andor, could both suffer delays. We know thanks to comments from Andor creator, Tony Gilroy, that the series was aiming to release in August of 2024, but that release is now uncertain and more than likely delayed – I heard early 2025. Andor paused production shortly after the SAG-AFTRA strike began, but only had a few weeks left to film according to reports. The Acolyte I had previously heard was aiming to release in the second quarter of 2024, but this now seems unlikely. I expect a delay for The Acolyte, but nowhere near as significant as the one Skeleton Crew might have, I expect a delay to the Summer – my personal speculation and it’s only my speciation, it’s that it could take the August window that was previously planned for Andor season two. However I’ve heard that The Mandalorian season four was due to release in 2025, this was before both strikes, and I’m still hearing 2025 for the fourth season.

The various Star Wars series are not the only shake-up’s happening at Disney+, as the streaming service has delayed multiple Marvel Studios series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series impacted included Echo, the Hawkeye spin-off series, which was due to release all episodes on November 29th, will now release sometime in January 2024. Additionally, Marvel have delayed Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (formally Agatha: Coven of Chaos) from a late 2023 release until the the early Fall of next year, which feels more for fitting of a release window. Following Loki season two’s upcoming October release, Marvel Studios’ next two series set to release will be animated – the second season of What If…? is due to release around December 25th, and X-Men ‘97 is due to release in early 2024. Marvel Studios planned live-action series originally set to release in 2024 including Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart and Wonder Man have all been indefinitely delayed.

Lucasfilm and Disney are currently airing Ahsoka, a spin-off of The Mandalorian and a successor to the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels. The series has received positive reactions from critics and fans alike. Star Wars fans should make the most of the live-action series as it might be a significant amount of time until the next one hits our screens.
