Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can support my work in two ways for which I’d be extremely grateful. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a two tier’s at this time – one to simply to support my work and a second which features ad-free articles. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

Dave Filoni exclusively revealed to Vanity Fair that he’s now in position at Lucasfilm as the Chief Creative Officer. Filoni was formally the Executive Creative Director at the company. Filoni explained to the outlet that the position places him much earlier in the development process of various films and series. Filoni explained that in the past he would be brought onto projects to give his input after they’d already been developed.

Filoni revealed that in his new role as CCO, he won’t be telling filmmakers what to do, but instead will be, “trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell.” Filoni added that his responsibility is to understand the intent of the filmmaker and for him to be a resource to them.

Dave Filoni will now work much closer with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm’s Head of Development, Carrie Beck. Beck’s role will see her recruiting storytellers and filmmakers into the Star Wars universe and will also originate and shepherd the next generation of Star Wars films and series with Filoni weighing in on a narrative level during the development process.

The Vanity Fair article confirms that despite Filoni now holding a larger position at Lucasfilm, he is still actively working on his Star Wars movie that was announced in April at Star Wars Celebration. Filoni’s Star Wars flick will act as a crossover event for the ‘MandoVerse’ series including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. Speaking of Ahsoka, the Vanity Fair article reveals that Filoni is exploring the possibility of a second season of the Ahsoka series, but a second season is yet to be officially greenlit or confirmed. The publication confirmed that all projects announced at Star Wars Celebration are all still currently in development and part of the Lucasfilm schedule.
