The future of Star Wars has been under extensive planning according to inside sources. As Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theatres this weekend to a mixed reception, there has been a lot of apprehension over how Disney and Lucasfilm will handle Star Wars going forward.
A new report from The Hollywood Reporter has pulled back the curtain a little bit on the future of Star Wars inside of Disney and Lucasfilm. It does not offer a whole lot of new but does give us something to hold onto during these turbulent times.
Tease Of The Future
According to a source inside of The Walt Disney Company working on Star Wars, they “definitely have a plan” for what they’ll be doing with the franchise after Star Wars Starfighter releases a year from now. The note that staff are “knee-deep into it” and it has been an “ongoing plan for a while.” One of the biggest complaints of the sequel trilogy was the lack of a plan. Have they learned their lesson for another go at creating a trilogy of films? We’ll have to wait and see.

Based on what we’ve heard so far coming from inside sources and Lucasfilm themselves, we should expect a trilogy by Simon Kinberg. How this connects to the sequel trilogy remains to be seen. Hopefully Rey Skywalker makes her triumphant return to lead another new era of Star Wars theatrical releases. Or perhaps it is set far, far away from the Skywalker Saga and offers something completely new. An issue the franchise has is some just want more of what they love already whilst others want a totally different expansion of the universe. These are problems we don’t envy Disney and Lucasfilm having.
