We just learned more about Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic from the game’s director Casey Hudson. The man behind the original Knights of the Old Republic game and its spiritual successor has explained how his new company is going to make this game in a shorter-than-expected timeframe.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Fate of the Old Republic director and Arcanaut Studios founder Casey Hudson revealed that the game will be free of generative AI and there is a focus on just making a great game with great people and far less modern development hindrances.
Not Taking The Easy Route
We previously wrote about how Hudson still maintains the game will be out by 2030. Some people will be thinking, “surely AI will be the reason for the project’s swiftness?” It is an ambitious, sprawling RPG game after all. The answer is no. There will be no genAI used in the creation of this project.
Hudson does not pull any punches. He labels AI as “creatively soulless” and that he personally finds it hard to imagine whereabouts it is even helpful in the game development process. The visionary game developer is also “really unimpressed with it [AI]”.
Studio Setup

Despite this being an obvious shortcut, Arcanaut Studios are not taking it. They’re even looking to keep the team lean. Where most AAA video game studios are made by hundreds or thousands of people, Arcanaut will be avoiding employing those kind of numbers. This is to reduce friction and make a game more like how they did back in the day.
It was also announced who will be funding this game. Learn more about its investors here.
This news comes just days after Arcanaut Studios updated their website. It revealed more staff members working on the game many of whom had also worked on KOTOR and the first Mass Effect at BioWare over two decades ago. The direction continued to be taken for this game will no doubt be exciting fans.
We should not expect much more information to come out about Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic for some time. The game only entered pre-production later last year and the team are still staffing up.
