John Boyega has revealed publicly that he’s had talks in regards to returning to Star Wars as the lovable Finn. We last saw the character in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker but whilst Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker has had a whole film confirmed for her, there has never been anything on Lucasfilm’s side on a Finn return.
We have heard rumblings of a Finn return over the past three years but since then Rey’s film has seen a change in a few writers’ hands and major overhauls to the script. Boyega was initially quite against a return to Star Wars post-TROS unless Kathleen Kennedy was involved plus J. J. Abrams returned to direct and starred alongside his fellow castmates in Oscar Isaac and Daisy Ridley.
We’re in a new era of Star Wars and Lucasfilm leadership now meaning more things might be on the table than before. New relationships can form and previous issues could be wiped from the slate. Perhaps more doors are open for Finn and Boyega.
Talks With Dave

In the past couple of years, Boyega has begun visiting conventions and meeting fans. Most recently, he appeared at MEGACON Orlando. According to ScreenRant, the actor was on a panel where he was quizzed on if he would be returning as Finn in future Star Wars stories.
In response, a fan from the crowd is to have shouted “Get Dave [Filoni] on the phone!” Interestingly, Boyega replied with “I actually have, actually.” Even though a few words were spoken, this is confirmation that both Jonn and Dave have had conversations about Finn’s future within Star Wars. As we know, Dave Filoni took charge of Lucasfilm in January alongside Lynwen Brennan.
Simon Kinberg is currently cooking up a trilogy following the events of the sequel trilogy. It is unknown if we’ll see anyone other than Rey from the most recent set of films return for this new era. Hopefully the trio will get back together to take on whatever threatens the galaxy next.
