What’s coming to the beloved Galactic Contention mod for Squad has been revealed in a sizeable dev update video. We’ll be taking a quick look at all what’s confirmed to be part of the new update and even a look ahead at future content.
Last week, we reported on how Galactic Contention returns on July 31st after several months of development. The mod will be running on Unreal Engine 5 with version 9.0 and contains plenty of new additions and changes.
Now the development team have released a near 40 minute video breaking down what will come to the mod next week. Let’s take a look at the big headline content additions and changes below.
Maps


Whilst most players will notice an immediate improvement to graphics thanks to Unreal Engine 5, some of the maps found in Galactic Contention have been reworked to be fairer and overall a better gameplay experience. Most maps are still largely unchanged but get all of the improved fidelity. You can find a general list of things you can expect from some of the maps below:
- New points of interest
- More detail
- New and more foliage
- Rebalanced and reworked layouts
Vehicles

- New TX-130 models with visual changers, fully modelled interior, camera changes and more
- Accurate UT-AT and different versions, changes made to turret passengers
- Accurate MTT which will be a mobile spawn point complete with droid rack animation
- Updated Tusken Battle Sail Barge
- BARC Speeder LOGI
- AT-XT (not launching with update 9.0)
- Hailfire Droid (not launching with update 9.0)
- Turbo Tank (not launching with update 9.0)
- New ARC-170 (not launching with update 9.0)
Gameplay Changes

- The Clone Security Forces added
- Umbarans added
- Droid Sniper now has full auto
- Tusken Raiders will now use the gaffi stick
- Commander role is now earned via vote
- Unique sub-factions added to certain maps for balancing
- Command post-based game mode (not launching with update 9.0)
- New sound effects and improved realism
- Senate Commandos (not launching with update 9.0)
YouTuber Bullwon who showed off everything coming soon added that there will be a proper gameplay video coming a few days before Galactic Contention’s UE5 update releases next week.
