Star Wars Starfighter writer Jonathan Tropper has spoken about the upcoming film in a new interview. He talks about the feeling he and director Shawn Levy set out to achieve with this film and more.
In a new episode of The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Jonathan Tropper is interviewed as part of the press tour of “Lucky”, a new Apple TV+ show he created and is the showrunner of. The creative was asked about Star Wars Starfighter as it is one of his upcoming projects and a high profile one at that.
Whilst Tropper did not want to give too much away about his adventure that takes place in galaxy far, far away, he did comment a bit about it. You can read his intital comment about transcribed below:
“The goal from the beginning, when Shawn and I first started talking about it, was to create the feeling in theaters that we had as kids seeing Star Wars way back in [19]77. Which was that sense of a swashbuckling adventure into new worlds. And for us, that was really important. There are no barriers to entry. You don’t have to have seen other Star Wars movies to step into this one and the idea was just to create that feeling of wish fulfillment and adventure that we felt as kids seeing the first one for the first time.”

The interviewer followed this up by asking if Tropper had seen any of the film yet. He confirmed that “I’ve seen a cut of it. I’ve seen all of it.” As we know from star Matt Smith, there is a rough cut already. Tropper added that he feels successful in what he and the team have achieved. He also went onto praise Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling for their work on the film.
“I think Shawn has done an incredible job. I think Gosling’s incredible. It’s going to be a really long wait until this comes out because I’m dying for people to see it.”
