Star Wars Starfighter already has been edited to an extent that it is watchable. That’s according to actor Matt Smith (Doctor Who, House of the Dragon) who will be playing an unknown role in the film.
The actor is busy on a press tour for the latest season of the Game of Thrones spin-off and naturally interviewers want to ask him about the Star Wars project he worked on ahead of its release next year.
First spotted by a Twitter user, Smith was specifically quizzed on his character in the Shawn Levy-directed flick. He almost slipped up on revealing if he is a villain or not. You can find this portion of the interview transcribed below:
Interviewer: “And you’re playing a villain.”
Matt Smith: “I ha… well, uh I mean, maybe… maybe, am I?
Interviewer: “Are you?”
Matt Smith: “I don’t know. You tell me. Maybe. Maybe”
Interviewer: “What can you tell us about about your character?”
Matt Smith: “I can’t really tell you much about the character, but I can you tell you that I think the film’s gonna be absolutely blinding. I think it’s gonna be brilliant, truly. I was so, so excited and thrilled to be on it. Mia Goth, fantastic. Ryan is just a great leader, and Shawn is a you know, a real top top director, so it was brilliant.”

It’s really exciting to hear more and more of the cast speak highly of the film plus both Ryan and Shawn. Smith has never come across someone who’ll always paint projects he’s promoting in a perfect light so it is a good sign that the actor thinks it will be good and he is genuinely excited. That’s not where the Star Wars Starfighter talk stops either. Matt Smith teases that he could go and watch it right now. We’ve transcribed this section of the interview below:
Interviewer: “So it’s finished?”
Matt Smith: “It’s finished, it’s done. Yeah, it’s in the can, I might even go and watch today. Can you believe that?”
Interviewer: “You may actually see…”
Matt Smith: “Well, yeah there’s like a rough cut, it’s kind of rough, rough. So… I might check that out next.”
We’re just under a year away from Star Wars Starfighter hitting cinema and IMAX screens. Post-production takes plenty of time on a big budget Star Wars film so even though there is a rough edit already, there is plenty of work still to be done.
