Brand new details from scenes filmed for Star Wars Starfighter and the tone of the film has all been revealed by a licensed Lucasfilm publication. We’re still a year away from the Ryan Gosling-led flick from hitting our cinema screens but excitement for this one is increasing rapidly.
All of the latest info comes from Star Wars Insider, the long running official magazine despite it ceasing publication in just a few days. The final issue, 237, teases a little bit about Star Wars Starfighter ahead of Star Wars Day. We previously wrote how it reveals a teaser trailer is coming soon but also some production information which we will now take a look at.
Crew Members Confirmed
Reddit user BZPJMJ64 shared a photo from a page of the new and final magazine; it talks specifically about Starfighter. There are some details on the film’s production here. As we know, the film wrapped principal photography shooting last December. The mag states the SFX unit also finished their work on the film at the same time.
It also confirms that SFX artists Dominic Tuohy and Richard Cheal worked on Star Wars Starfighter. They both previously worked on Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. Tuohy also contributed to Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Innovation And Scene Info
Cheal tells Star Wars Insider that the film has “a huge explosion in one scene.” Also, the SFX team found an “innovative method of levitating vehicles for the movie”. A speeder in the film will through canyons really fast. Whilst this has done before in Star Wars, the team say they “we did it in a way that hasn’t been done before”.
“Imagine a long pole, with a cable connected in the middle and counterweight either side, like a seesaw. On one side of the cable we put the speeder and the actor and on the other side we had our counterweight. With all the balance correct, we were able to turn and rotate the speeder, and that gave us a much more fluid look than using hydraulic platform.”

As seen in the image above Gosling and his in-film nephew ride on a watercraft. According to Cheal, they put a “wavespeeder rig on a boat and took it out to sea along with the actors”. The crew opted to shoot this on location rather than on a bluescreen stage. The reason behind this is to bring the “imperfections of the wind”. The wind direction kept changing and affecting how costumes move.
Fans have been hyped for Starfighter due to Ryan Gosling’s involvement as the leading man. According to Tuohy, Star Wars Starfighter “has a really good story” with “old school tongue-in-cheek humor”. He adds that Gosling “has got the charm” to go with it.
In other recent Star Wars Starfighter news, we recently learned who will be editing the film. It’s even someone known for work on Star Wars previously. Learn more about that here.
