Yet another Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu box office projection is being reported as we get ever closer to the film release. In the past few weeks, we have reported on a variety of box office projections but this will be the first from the press.
Star Wars fans on social media were quick to shut down box office analysts and their predictions due to them not knowing who these analysts were. Now a well renowned Hollywood trade is providing a similar, negative outlook for the films opening.
Deadline are reporting they’re tracking has the film achieving over $80m during the course of the four-day Memorial Day weekend. This is around $20m lower than Solo: A Star Wars Story which opened on the exact same holiday weekend in the United States of America.
Even though The Mandalorian and Grogu certainly has cost less to produce and market compared to Solo, this is still a poor look. This is the return of a near five decade pop culture phenomenon after seven years. It should be doing far better.

Deadline do note that it is still early with three weeks left before release. There’s a good chance it will rise past 80 million. Currently, tickets sales are most popular amongst men over 25. Disney reportedly have a plan to bring in families for the opening weekend to bolster box office tickets sales. That said, a good opening weekend does not mean great legs through summer.
Tickets for the film went on sale a couple of weeks ago and fans who have been able to get their hands on free IMAX tickets will be watching over 25 minutes of footage from the film on May 4th. Positive word of mouth from the screenings may help boost tickets sales throughout the release month.
The Mandalorian and Grogu releases on May 22nd in cinemas worldwide.
