Numbers showing how popular the recent Star Wars games in Fortnite are have been released by Epic Games.
During Epic Games’ State of Unreal 2026 keynote, featured a lot of big news. It also contained some mentions about Star Wars. This is something worth taking note on considering Lucasfilm views Fortnite as the future of Star Wars storytelling and The Volume uses Unreal Engine.
Amongst many announcements, there are some big changes coming to Unreal Engine with UE6. For one, AI will be taking centre stage. The new engine will be leaning into LLMs for creation of video games. It is worth noting that according to a recent report, Lucasfilm will be looking to cut costs on their live action productions with AI generated environments and effects. Unreal Engine 5 already powers the The Volume so this seems like a natural progression.
Early access to UE6 will open in late 2027 with a full release targeting 2029. It’s likely Lucasfilm/Disney has already seen a preview and are working with Epic on UE6 given their investment.
Star Wars Games In Fortnite
Another big change is Unreal Engine and UEFN merging. “UE6 will combine Unreal Engine and UEFNÂ into a single, unified engine” says Epic. Speaking of UEFN, let’s take a look at how successful the Star Wars games made for Fortnite are doing.
Stats for all three of the official Star Wars games that were made in UEFN have stats released by Epic. On their big stage at Unreal Fest Chicago, the company revealed 8 million players checked out either of the three titles within the first 72 hours.

Now for a breakdown. During its first 6 days, Galactic Siege had over 6.5 million players. Escape Vader was less popular but still got 3.4m users. Droid Tycon was seemingly higher than both of these as it was the 2nd most popular game on the entire platform. It is worth noting that player counts outside of Droid Tycoon did drop sharply after the first several days.
According to Droid Tycoon developers Future Trash, the game was the most played UEFN game in terms of hours played. It launched in May. It was also the second most played game in Fortnite during the launch weekend only bested by Battle Royale Zero Build.
Furthermore, Future Trash’s CEO Kevin Marciano says it broke another Fortnite record earlier this month. Droid Tycoon had achieved the “highest number of concurrent players over a two-hour period”. That is the strongest performance ever achieved by an IP experience in Fortnite. This comes after a new report released some other stats on Droid Tycoon’s success.
It will be interesting to see how Lucasfilm navigates the future of interactive entertainment.
