Star Wars Eclipse has received a development update from Quantic Dream. The video game maker based out of Paris have rebuked claims of cancellation fears from staff set to be laid off.
Last week we reported on how during Lucasfilm’s visit at the studio to view the game’s progress, staff were called to strike by a union. This was due to the loss of 115 jobs at the Paris office’s Spellcasters Chronicles team. Employees told the union that Star Wars Eclipse requires more staff to complete the game and those being laid off could be the ones too bring the game over the finish line.
In response to last week’s story, Quantic Dream shared a statement with IGN. We last heard about the game from the French studio when they cancelled Spellcasters Chronicles a couple of months ago.
Game Is Still Going As Planned
A spokesperson for Quantic Dream told IGN that “As previously stated, the development of Star Wars Eclipse remains unaffected by the recent closure of Spellcasters Chronicles, a decision driven by the challenging market conditions in that segment.”
The added that “The development of Star Wars Eclipse is continuing as planned, with the full commitment of its team and all the necessary resources to complete its mission. Our priority is to ensure that employees affected by the restructuring process receive the appropriate support, care, and consideration. Out of respect for this ongoing process and for the employees concerned, we will not provide any further comment at this stage.”

The union, STJV, has requested Quantic Dream reduce the number of layoffs and have those saved put onto Star Wars Eclipse. We’ll have to wait and see what the outcome is of the ordeal.
