Star Wars Eclipse‘s development situation has seemingly gotten worse. That’s according to a reputable journalist that has been covering the inside story at French game developer Quantic Dream.
Recently, Star Wars rumour account FivesWalker claimed a number of things about the game’s development such as how it “will absolutely still come out” and details on multiple protagonists you can play as. Now we have more of an insight from reputable outlet Insider Gaming.
Back in April, Mike Straw of Insider Gaming revealed how the game’s progress had effectively come to a snail’s pace due to the lack of employees on the project. He noted that much of the game had been complete and it was not in development hell. However, he has now changed his stance.
Will We See Star Wars Eclipse Again Soon?
During the Insider Gaming podcast a few days ago. the hosts were speculating what games you should expect to pop up during this month’s gaming showcases (Summer Game’s Fest, Xbox Game Showcase, PlayStation State of Play etc).
Straw said one game you should not expect to see is Star Wars Eclipse. That is because the game is now in development hell according to the journalist. Co-host and reputable insider Tom Henderson quipped “unless they pay for a cinematic trailer” much like they did for the game announcement in 2021. Game trailers made in-engine using things from the game take a lot of time and resources away from all teams working on the game. A CGI trailer by a 3rd party studio is a more time and resource efficient.

“It ain’t going well. It’s not going well like it is not going well at all and there’s frustration. There’s a lot of frustration about it so I would not expect that. If they did anything, it would be a ‘we’re still here’.”
Henderson brought up how he “said it like three or four years ago that that game was in hell and it just hasn’t improved.”
Quantic Dream Looks To Be Sold
In his report from April, Straw suggested NetEase could look to sell Quantic Dream for a number of factors. He has now doubled down on the Chinese companies desire to do so:
“Quantic Dream…. they want to get out from Netease. They want to divest from Quantic Dream. I’m not going to be surprised if Quantic Dream is sold by the end of the year or announced or announced of like ‘hey, we’re selling’ or whatever by the end of the year or sometime in 2027.
Quantic Dream were riding on a game no one knew existed to fund more of the Eclipse and that game Spellcasters Chronicles ceased development.
