Star Wars Eclipse Development Update Provided, Studio Cancels Their Other Game

Star Wars Eclipse developers Quantic Dream have just announced the cancellation of one of the games in development. They also have provided a small update on the development of their High Republic era, narrative driven game.

On Wednesday afternoon, a post was made by Quantic Dream on their social media channels. The statement says multiplayer title Spellcasters Chronicles, which had been in early access, will cease development. The game was announced last October alongside a mention about Star Wars Eclipse’s production. Its servers will shut down on June 19th 2026. To be clear, this game was being made by a separate team within the French game studio.

As for Star Wars Eclipse, Quantic Dreams’ statement reiterates that “The development of Star Wars Eclipse is not affected by this decision and continues as planned.” As we mentioned last month, developers are continuing to be hired for this game every week or so.

It was previously reported that the company would be relying on commercial success for Spellcasters Chronicles to help fund more staff to work on Star Wars Eclipse. Plenty of the game has been completed but progress stalled a few months ago. It was also rumoured NetEase could weigh up its ownership of Quantic Dream if Spellcasters failed to meet financial demands.

Perhaps now Quantic Dream and NetEase have cut their losses on Spellcasters Chronicles, staff can be moved onto Star Wars Eclipse. They do mention that there will be an “internal reorganization”. As part of this, Quantic Dream claim they are “fully committed to handling this transition with fairness, care, and respect, and will prioritize internal reassignments wherever possible to support our other productions.”

It does sound like some of the staff members on the multiplayer title will make their way onto Star Wars Eclipse but there will also be unfortunate job losses.

You can read their statement in full below:

Today, Quantic Dream is announcing the discontinuation of the development of Spellcasters Chronicles.

With this project, our teams set out to explore new creative territories and create a bold, original multiplayer experience. Spellcasters Chronicles allowed us to experiment with new concepts and bring to life an ambitious game shaped by the talent, creativity, and dedication of everyone involved.

However, in today’s particularly challenging market environment, the game has not reached the audience needed to ensure its long-term sustainability. We have therefore made the difficult decision to refocus our efforts on our other projects.

As part of this decision, the studio will undertake an internal reorganization. We are fully committed to handling this transition with fairness, care, and respect, and will prioritize internal reassignments wherever possible to support our other productions.

The development of Star Wars Eclipse is not affected by this decision and continues as planned.

Spellcasters Chronicles will remain accessible online until June 19, 2026, when the servers will be shut down. All amounts spent during Early Access will be eligible for a full refund upon request. Further details will be shared in the coming days through the game’s official channels and Discord.

We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined us on this journey, the creators and community members who supported the project, and the teams whose remarkable work brought Spellcasters Chronicles to life.
