A new Star Wars Jedi 3 rumour has popped up but this time it comes from two reputable journalists and not fanfiction shared to Reddit.
During the latest episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, the show’s hosts were speculating what games we could see appear during this week’s gaming showcases (Summer Game’s Fest, Xbox Game Showcase, PlayStation State of Play etc).
One of the hosts, Mike Straw, said fans should not expect to see Star Wars Eclipse as it is in development hell according to his sources. However, he noted it “would be cool to see” Star Wars Jedi 3. Many fans have been under the assumption we’ll see it at The Game Awards this December but this is all just speculation. Another host and Editor-in-Chief at Insider Gaming Tom Henderson decided to follow this up with a little tidbit of information he heard about the third and final Jedi game from Respawn.
Wise Old Cal?
Henderson recalls being told about the game’s setting about a year ago. Star Wars Jedi 3 apparently features an older Cal Kestis due to a time jump.
For context, Jedi Fallen Order was set in 15 BBY and Jedi Survivor is based in 9 BBY. That makes a 5 year age gap. The young Jedi was 18 in the first game and 23 during the events of Jedi Survivor. Even though Cal was older in Survivor, Tom seems to suggest Cal would age more than another 5 years. We’ll have to find out if the game is set before or after the Battle of Yavin.

“I mean this was like a year a year ago or whatever, but I heard that like Cal was going to be older in the game, so I don’t know if they’re doing like a little time jump or something.”
Straw joked that Cal is a grandpa now. However, Henderson made it clear that he did not mean he would be “that old like he uses his Lightsaber as walking stick.” We’ll have to wait and see if this rumour ends up being true.
Credible journalist Jeff Grubb who leaked the Survivor part of the game name also revealed when Jedi 3 entered development. According to Grubb, “it went into production right away after the second one. Kind of before that happened. Everyone involved knew they were going to make a third game. They wanted to do a trilogy.”
Last week, Lucasfilm said we can expect more Cal Kestis stories in the future. Learn more about that here.
