Lucasfilm have doubled down on Cal Kestis but a recent comment might not be all what it might seem. Fans have been wanting Cal Kestis in live action Star Wars shows or films for quite some time and there have lots of fake rumours of such a thing. However, Lucasfilm, Respawn and Disney have not really mentioned the topic a whole lot aside from brief mentions including a new one from a recent interview.
In a conversation with a Lucasfilm spokesperson and GameRant, “more Cal stories” are coming. This mention came during a “discussion regarding the popular theme park attractions at Disneyland” and if Cal could appear in live action. The full, short quote can be found below:
“Never say never. We’ve got his lightsaber in the park. We’ve got more Cal stories coming.”
Some outlets have been misrepresenting this quote. They have been suggesting these comments means the fan-favourite character played by Cameron Monaghan will certainly be surviving in Star Wars Jedi 3 and appearing in live action films or shows. That is not what the Lucasfilm/Disney rep said at all. It could mean anything.

Monaghan has been vocal about how he and Respawn deeply care about the character. You won’t be seeing Cal pop-up in live action in any sort of meaningful way until after Jedi 3 came out or maybe never. We just don’t know.
You can have Star Wars media such as comics and books release after Jedi 3 but set before the events of the game. Cal can appear in canon material however and whenever Lucasfilm chooses. The rep’s answer is a fairly obvious bare minimum answer. We already know Star Wars Jedi 3 is coming and given the sub-series has had books and manga adaptations, it is not going to be unexpected to see him pop up in media like that again. Cal even showed up in the non-canon LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past Disney+ special last year.
Now that Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland has been given an Original Trilogy-era makeover, perhaps Cal could be one of the characters found waltzing around Batuu? That would be fun. As the representative mentioned, his Lightsaber is already within the park for purchase.
The third Jedi game to end this trilogy has been in development Jedi Survivor released all the way back in Spring 2023. We’ll hopefully find out later this year, perhaps at The Game Awards, when it might come out.
Earlier this year, Lucasfilm Games teased that there is “more to come” from Respawn’s world. Learn more here.
