The untitled Star Wars horror project’s future is currently unclear following a new report and clarification.
Earlier this week, reputable Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider published a new report detailing Disney’s asks for Lucasfilm going forward. We’re yet to see what this new Filioni-led regime will do for us (it is too early!) but it did give us an insight of what we can expect.
However, some Star Wars fans had noticed that a few lines from Sneider’s report had been removed at some point. Sneider took to his show The Hot Mic to clarify this. You can read Jeff’s quote from the latest episode of the podcast transcribed below.
“Obviously I’ve got sources at Lucasfilm. I’ve got a pretty good track record. So the juiciest thing in there they told me to take out because it wasn’t accurate. In the document, there was a line about the future of Star Wars TV shows. It mentioned shows about this and this and the third thing at it said was that they were exploring the idea of doing a horror in the Star Wars universe. Now again, my sources said this was not accurate.”
This is interesting as Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy said Lucasfilm were looking at a horror project last year. He did not specific if it was a film or show. The document talked about it being a TV show. There was some speculation this is/was the Carlton and Nick Cuse penned production.
“They’re already doing that. I think they’re doing that. I think that’s in the works, yeah.”
Tony Gilroy

Based on Sneider’s comments, it sounds like that project has now been canned unless it is no longer a show but transformed into another piece of media. A theatrical release or game perhaps? With horror films (including some made by 20-something year olds on low budgets that have bested The Mandalorian and Grogu) doing really well at the box office, it seems like this could be something Lucasfilm could see as an opportunity.
Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Ewok Hunt mode has been a viral and popular horror mode since its introduction in 2018. The genre already works well as a game mode inside of a larger game so why not expand on it? Horror games a popular, horror films are too. There is something there. If it has entirely been canned than this is yet another fumble from Lucasfilm.
