The Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake is impressive despite its long and turbulent development according to reputable insider for the game.
Announced almost 5 years ago and having undergone change in development teams, we are still without anything officially other than a CG teaser trailer. However, the current development team at Mad Head Games under the Saber Interactive umbrella sound like they are on track to deliver what fans want.
Following last week’s news out of Saber that the game is confirmed to still be in development, KOTOR Remake insider 100% Star Wars has provided an update based on what he has seen after the game and heard from staff working on it. For those unaware, the content creator has provided several scoops over the years in relation to the project and Aspyr, the original developers of this remake.
In a Tweet, the content creator claims that he has seen Saber’s version of the KOTOR Remake in action and that he is “extremely impressed with most of what they’re building.” He also calls the move to switch development teams and start from scratch “the right choice”. There’s also speculation on his part that a reveal could come later in 2026 if development continues as planned.
Gameplay Details

As for gameplay details, this new version does differ quite a bit from Aspyr’s version. That take on the remake was more like a traditional action game. 100% Star Wars likens it to a “poor man’s Fallen Order with FF7 pause mechanics.” Whilst he did not dive much deeper publicly, there is a strong hint the new version we will probably get is more like how the original game worked.
Additionally, the content creator says that even if the more action-oriented KOTOR sounds good on paper, it “didn’t really feel like KOTOR”. Meanwhile Mad Head are “getting things right holistically” in his opinion.
If rumours of a 2027 release are true, we should be seeing more of the KOTOR Remake this year. The 50th anniversary of Star Wars is going to be quite the event. From a new film to the 1977 re-release and highly anticipated game releases, it is shaping up to be a huge.
