Star Wars Zero Company has only been out for a few hours and there is talk among its developers regarding a potential follow-up.
The game is coming out the gates extremely strong on both the critical and commercial fronts. It earned rave reviews from the press, so much so that it’s now the 4th highest rated of Star Wars game of all time. The reviews did the game a big favour because as we wrote about here it is now the biggest Steam launch ever for a Star Wars game.
There’s no reason to rest though. Speaking with VGC on launch day, the game’s creative director Greg Foerstch said he has been sent “a lot” of positive messages from Lucasfilm and EA. Foerstch added that he and his company fully intends to work on another licensed IP.
Whilst he did not say that it would definitely be Star Wars, the CEO of Bit Reactor tells VGC “we’d love to keep making Star Wars, potentially. I think the next game we’re doing is probably going to be an existing IP.”

“When I started the company, I actually wanted a license. The whole thing I was doing was looking for IP when we stumbled into Star Wars. Starting a company and making your own IP just felt too risky. It’s just another thing to solve.
It is extremely positive to hear that Zero Company has already generated great sentiment within the walls of Lucasfilm and EA. There’s even more on the cards too.
EA in a bit of a strange situation right now. With the recent Saudi Arabian takeover of the company, lots of things are in flux. The company needs to make $20 billion to pay off the takeover debt. That involves a lot of cost cutting and safe projects. This game was on the lower budget but also not a surefire hit like a Star Wars Jedi 3 or new Battlefront. The third and final game in Cal Kestis’ story is up next from EA and Respawn. Perhaps in the near future, Bit Reactor (who is an independent studio) will be given the go ahead to make another title set within the galaxy far, far away.
