Has Simon Bird Exited Star Wars Starfighter? Lucasfilm Removes Comedian From Cast List

There might be an big change to Star Wars Starfighter’s cast. Simon Bird may have seen his role in the Shawn Levy-directed blockbuster significantly lessened or cut entirely. This comes just days after it was announced The Inbetweeners, which Bird is best known for, were making a comeback with a third film now in production.

The comedian best known as Will from British sitcom was previously listed alongside Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Amy Adams and more whenever Lucasfilm wrote about the upcoming film. However, the company has quietly removed all mentions of Bird as spotted by Twitter user @ThatWeirdoAldo.

After looking at StarWars.com articles via the Wayback Machine, Bird was removed between August 22nd and September 2nd. Every other word on the post is identical except for the removal of his name. You can see a comparison of the current version of the Star Wars Starfighter cast announcement on the left and the original version on the right.

Bird’s name was also removed from the D23 film logo reveal around the same time. The most recent Star Wars Starfighter article about the IMAX 70MM release that was published on Tuesday did not include it at all.

If Bird is no longer in the film, then that’s an interesting twist for multiple reasons. What was his role before? Is he still in the film? Or did Lucasfilm decide they want to keep him out of marketing?

Additionally, Rey Skywalker herself Daisy Ridley was cast in The Inbetweeners 2. However, Daisy’s scenes were cut from the theatrical sequel. They reshot the scenes without her due to the fact she was filming The Force Awakens in Abu Dhabi at the time.

We’ll have to wait and see if anyone on either the Lucasfilm or Bird side confirm what is actually going on. Starfighter wrapped up shooting last year and a rough cut of the whole film has been made and watched by cast and crew.

In other recent news, the Star Wars Starfighter trailer is reportedly coming this December. Learn more here.
